Coach Profile:

While Kim Landrum is relatively new to the sport of triathlon, she's a veteran of competition. She began swimming competitively at five, and for several years trained and competed throughout the year swimming all four events plus relay. Kim transitioned to gymnastics with the private Jeff State Gym Stars team and remained competitive throughout high school, winning several state-wide awards in the all-around category. In addition to swimming and gymnastics, Kim divided her time between softball, volleyball, tennis, track, cross country and cheerleading until entering Auburn University to study Interior Design in 1986.

At Auburn, Kim followed a more creative path involving interior architecture, design and photography. She continued her creative pursuits by enrolling in the University of Georgia's Art Department and received her Master of Fine Arts in Photography in 1997. Upon graduating she joined the faculty at the UGA's College of Journalism teaching photojournalism, newspaper design and layout and information graphics. It was there she was first introduced to the internet and learned the basics of Web design. Next came a stint as an art director in Atlanta, then co-owner of The Big Picture in south Georgia for four years. In 2004 Kim's husband entered Vet School at UGA prompting her return to Athens as a graphic and web designer at Plexus. Kim is currently a freelance graphic designer, coach and triathlete.

In 2009, Kim entered her first triathlon (Lake Lanier Sprint Triathlon) and was hooked. After completing her first race she immediately entered another and knew this was her sport. As a 40-year-old athlete, Kim knew she needed to train correctly and hired Kim (Dunker) Reistad as her coach. Having trained for two half marathons in recent years which resulted in bordom and stress fractures, she was looking for something all-inclusive and challenging both mentally and physically. Triathlon had it all -- her husband, Joel, also competes in triathlon as well as her son, Aidan. Triathlon's biggest drawl is the commaraderie and her instant love of the sport has inspired her to share that love with others as a coach. Kim is a USAT Level 1 Certified Coach, teaches adult Run Clinic and youth Kids Clinic, and is the founder of MiniMarathoners, an endurance running program for elementary aged kids.
